STEM CELL BANKING
THE FUTURE TREATMENT OF ILLNESSES WITH STEM CELLS
To be able to support the future treatment of illnesses with stem cells, it is advisable to store stem cells at a reliable Stem Cell Bank. Premium (Private) Stem Cell Banking and Public Stem Cell Banking under one roof are becoming the core competence of future success, linking stem cell banking Know how actively with potential therapeutic application.
Stem cell banking has been for more than 20 years available in the market. In the beginning, stem cells had been harvested from bone marrow to treat leukemia. Today we know that stem cells are available in almost all parts of our body. Stem cells can be collected from Embryonic and non-embryonic “Adult Stem Cells.” We are supporting the common adult stem cell activities of none Embryonic cells; this also avoids any unnecessary ethical discussion on R&D and treatment in this 21st-century science field.
Today stem cells can be harvested from many places of our body. Widespread is the collection of stem cells from fat, bone marrow, placentas, umbilical cord tissue, and cord blood. More recently this had been expanded experimental to adult stem cells from deciduous Baby teeth’s (Milk teeth’s), menstrual blood, peripheral blood, and even urine as stem cells are located in many, if not all body parts. Stem cells are basically divided in Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) forming blood related cellular structures and Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) able to repair tissues.
Stem cells can be easily harvested from the blood left in a baby’s umbilical cord, the cord tissue, or placenta after its birth, or via a mini-liposuction from adipose tissue (fat) or a specific bone marrow harvesting method.
|
The harvested liquid is then analyzed, stem cells are separated, processed and cryopreserved. Cryopreservation is the freezing in nitrogen where the growth process is halted for the stem cells until again unfrozen for future medical use.
|
The advantage of cryopreservation stem cells is that if they harvested at an early stage of life, it is believed that stem cell in an early stage of life have a better regeneration capabilities. Stem cells, harvested today (2023) from adipose tissue and bone marrow, are already used in many stem cell clinics for investigational, autologous (own) stem cell therapy treatments without expansion. Expansion of stem cells, before re-injected into the human body has the advantage that their therapeutic effect, may increase due to the higher quantity of stem cell population in the body.
ADULT STEM CELLS
FROM ADIPOSE TISSUE, FAT CELLS, via LIPOSUCTION
For an informative view on stem cell potential, we are using the video from American CryoStem on YouTube, describing the future of adult stem cells from adipose tissue, fat cells, from liposuction.
In the last years (2014), confirmed today (2023) it became evident, that the collection of stem cells (mesenchymal stem cells) from adipose tissues may be generating larger quantities than usually obtained from bone marrow harvesting. This advantage appears to have changed in recent times due to new harvesting methods from bone marrow.
The collection of adult stem cells, from adipose tissue or bone marrow, can be performed much later in life as often the time to collect stem cells from the umbilical cord at the birth of a child or from baby teeth had not been performed.
Therefore, while healthy, besides the storage of stem cells from baby’s, Adult Stem Cell Banking may well become the “natural safety net”, we can create to treat potential illnesses at a later time in life.
|
This “natural safety net” philosophy is certainly a valid option already with today’s Know how and information standard as Experimental Stem cell treatment becomes more and more available in some countries as a new medical alternative where other medication does not show the required result.
|
In November 2014, already 2214 clinical studies had been registered while in August 2022 a total of 6268 studies and in August 2023 a total of 6885 studies are shown at Clinical Trials.gov (Search mode: clinical trials – stem cell trials) to support the medical claims made in helping to improve the image of being a none proven, experimental treatment only..... So far only a few products passed the FDA stringend regulations as an approved evidence based medicine.
|
Furthermore, stem cell treatment will also advance in various countries as a “surgical medical procedure” with fresh, non-expanded autologous stem cells from bone marrow and adipose tissues (fat tissues) but also expanded MSCs from Umbilical Cord Tissue in a qualified out-patient clinic as a patient-funded experimental stem cell therapy. In 2016 it was estimated that more than 400 clinics globally are using non-expanded autologous stem cells for various investigational therapeutic treatments. This number increased to more than 1500 clinics in 2021 and latest estimates (2023) show more than 2500 clinics offer so called unproven stem cell therapies..
Many scientists and physicians believe, that the 21st century will be the century of Biological and Medical Revolution like the last century was for electronics, computers and communication devices. This trend is already proven by the nearly daily news flow – see our info NEWS – of advances in tissue engineering and stem cell technology. Unfortunately, some non-qualified clinics and physicians are creating a bad image, which is true, like shown in the somehow “constructed” report of “60 Minutes”… (embedding, unfortunately, is disabled)

… mentioning also, in that time (2012), that mainstream medicine and some scientists are not believing that stem cells are a viable option for treatment of so far untreatable illnesses.
What is, however, at a certain time (The 60 minutes report is from 09. Jan. 2012!) maybe correct, maybe tomorrow already is outdated knowledge as scientific knowledge and qualified application is expanding exponentially and the more than 2500 stem cell clinics, estimated in 2023, about 10 years later, demonstrate that Know how and its application is really advancing rapidly and the stem cell revolution as a medical procedure is unstoppable!
Stem cell treatment with IRB approved protocols in qualified clinics with patient funded stem cell studies, being recorded, analyzed and published are certainly today in 2023, not falling into the “60 Minutes” treatment report category!
In our assessment, stem cell banking and the expansion of stem cells for therapeutic use will become more and more the interface between technological advances and applied therapeutic treatment, although regulators like the FDA and EMA try to defend their model of industrialized produced pharmaceutical also for stem cell and regenerative medicine treatments.
JAPAN,
GLOBAL LEADER OF REGENERATIVE MEDICINE
Japan has changed its regulatory environment already in 2013, and is since that time advancing its treatment potential with stem cells, becoming a true global leader of regenerative medicine.
Modern stem cell bank have enlarged their activities from simple harvesting of stem cells from the umbilical cord to cryopreserve adult stem cells and engages in investigational therapies to support the treatment potential of stem cells.
|
Stem cells have shown in animal models and experimental human treatments to heal and restore skin, bones, cartilage, muscles, nerves and other tissues which have become damaged through injury or diseases. By choosing to bank your, or / and your child’s stem cells, you are building a “valuable safety net”, a “natural insurance” that will always be there to potentially safeguard your future as treatments become available for a growing number of diseases such as Cancer, Heart Diseases, Diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis and many more.
In respect of stem cell banking, we like to draw attention to the FDA and EMA regulations. After being cryopreserved, stem cells should be thawed and expanded to be effective in any stem cell treatment. Expanding of stem cells is however neither at the FDA nor EMA allowed, as it constitutes a more than minimal manipulation and the stem cells than becomes a drug, regulated accordingly to drug regulations, like the need for clinical trials to determine safety and efficacy.
|
Qualified stem cell banks have also an export license for their cryopreserved stem cells, which allows them to ship the stem cells to a country where stem cell treatment with expanded stem cells is allowed. We know of two companies having even a joint venture with a foreign company in a country where this method is already authorized. If you like to know more please contact us as shown below.
